At the Herrschinger Sautrogrennen on Sunday, Florian Schell and Jonas Schmidt asserted themselves as the winners of the celebrated paddling fun as they did three years ago.

It was the highlight of the three-day palace garden festival, to which thousands of visitors flocked to the Kurpark this year after the compulsory Corona break.

Herrsching

– The two friends are old hands in the Sautrog business.

They are carrying the big challenge trophy home for the third time.

The athletic duo Florian Schell (31) and Jonas Schmidt (32) have known each other since the first grade at the Herrsching elementary school.

“We are no longer excited.” The friends actually paddled to the finish line in a very relaxed manner, because their opponents in the final, the 18-year-old handball players Maxi Bremer and Johannes Regensburger, capsized when they turned the buoy.

After a two-year Corona break, the Sautrog race embedded in the Schlossgartenfest on Sunday became a crowd puller.

Densely packed, the masses cheered with the 20 teams in total, who bravely competed against each other with a Sautrog crew of two people each.

Whoever completed the lap around the buoy 20 meters away first, in moderate waves, progressed.

"Gorgeous, people are hungry for fun," said Mayor Christian Schiller, beaming, "25 years ago I lost in the final myself, but that was the day I met my wife." Ludwig Darchinger, CEO of the organizer "D'Herrschinger “ was pleased that the 29th pig trough race was allowed to take place again this year – after all, the red and the yellow club trough stood unused in the warehouse for two years.

"Herrsching is the only place in Germany where you can qualify for the Sautrog World Championship in Qatar",

The Herrschinger Brauhaus started the maiden voyage with its own sow trough.

The brand-new green-lacquered trough with the brewery logo first had to be officially measured and approved by boat builder Mathis Hoffmann before it succumbed to the waves a few meters along with the wooden dachshund mascot.

When asked about their secret, the winning team explained: "More balance instead of strength, you could see that in the girls, who were able to hold their own against the strong boys." The only 13-year-old Franzi fought alongside her mother Ursula Jaiser third place.

The Jaiser women traveled from Rosenheim and clearly prevailed in the first round against husband Michael Jaiser with son Felix (18).

Anyone who has dared the wobbly game in the hard wooden trough knows what he has done.

"It's exhausting for arms and knees," said Tropschug's daughter Pauline, who competed with cousin Lion Sikezsdy as the "Pro&Mille" team.

The finalists Schell and Schmidt also confessed after their victory: "Brutally exhausting, tomorrow your upper arms will be nice and blue again."
