The Palestinian "Al-Quds" University, which operates in East Jerusalem, held a festive graduation ceremony on the campus of the academic institution last weekend.

Among the dozens of graduates, 11 security prisoners, who completed their master's degree studies, while behind bars, were conspicuous by their absence.

Their families received the graduation certificate on their behalf.

The list of security prisoners with master's degrees includes, among others, the terrorist Abbas al-Sayed, who is serving a prison sentence of 35 life sentences, after being convicted of involvement in the attacks at the Park Hotel in Netanya on Seder night in 2002 and the attack on the dolphinarium.

In addition, Tarek Bargot, who is serving 13.5 years in prison for his involvement in shooting attacks against Israelis together with the terrorist Zakaria Zabeidi, the terrorist Mahmoud Sarahana, who is serving 17 life sentences for his involvement in two murderous attacks in Jerusalem in the early 2000s and the terrorist Ahmed Barghouti, who is serving 13 life sentences for his involvement in planning murderous attacks in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv in the early 2000s.

A-Sayed's wife responded to her husband's awarding of the title: "Out of the suffering and injustice of the prison, the prisoners were able to achieve high achievements in education, thanks to their patience, courage, steadfastness and strong will. On my behalf, and on behalf of my children and parents, I want to send congratulations to the prisoner's husband, the engineer Abbas A. - Sayed, for receiving the master's degree in regional studies from Al-Quds University and with a good grade. We ask God that my husband will do his doctorate when he is free."

Since the worsening of the conditions of the security prisoners, the possibility of completing degrees from official universities in prison has been denied, and the industry of awarding fictitious degrees to security prisoners by Palestinian educational institutions is thriving, with every year prisoners are awarded degrees without their presence.

So far, it is not clear if those prisoners are actually studying for degrees and have access to the study materials.
