The areas planted with oil crops in the lands under the supervision of the General Authority for the Management and Development of the Forest during the current season amounted to 650 hectares out of the total planned plan amounting to 340 hectares, with an implementation rate of about 190 percent.
The Director of Plant Wealth in the Authority, Engineer Wafiq Zarouf, explained in a statement to SANA reporter that these cultivated areas included the cultivation of 564 hectares of groundnuts, 44 hectares of ordinary grasses, in addition to 6 hectares of oil seeds, 20 hectares of sesame, and 16 hectares of soybeans, indicating that the cultivation operations and inventory of the cultivated areas are continuing. for some species.
Zarouf pointed out that the soil of the Al-Ghab area is suitable for most types of oil crops, so the farmers are good at cultivating it, especially after harvesting the wheat and barley crops due to its remunerative financial returns and its relatively short agricultural cycle.
For their part, a number of farmers in the Al-Ghab region demanded the necessity of providing the necessary support to farmers of oil crops, similar to other crops, especially in terms of securing fuel at cost, allocating them in quantities of fertilizer, releasing irrigation water to irrigate these crops, and benefiting from the services of agricultural bank loans in financing production requirements due to their economic importance. Great and the local market need it.
The areas of cultivation of oil crops are concentrated in the Al-Ghab area in the villages and towns of Jeb Ramleh, Mahrada, Tremiseh, Tal Meleh and Al-Jebeen.
