Benediktbeuern – Another mountain accident on the Benediktenwand: A Dutchman (38) crashed on the “Maximilianssteig”.
He was lucky.
At around 10:45 a.m. on Tuesday (July 2nd), the integrated control center was informed by witnesses that a climber had fallen on the north side of the Benediktenwand.
The Benediktbeuern mountain rescue service was alerted and, together with the rescue helicopter, was able to rescue the injured person within a short time.
No official way
As the accident recording by a police mountain guide showed, the 38-year-old man from the Netherlands wanted to descend from the Benediktenwand via the so-called "Maximiliansteig".
This is not an officially signposted hiking trail, but is mostly exposed steep terrain.
According to the police, the Dutchman had obviously "lost his bearings" and fell about 30 meters down the steep terrain.
Luckily, the 38-year-old came to rest on a ledge in front of another 100-meter drop with moderate injuries to his hands and legs.
After the rescue and first aid by the mountain rescue service, the man was flown to the Murnau accident clinic for further treatment. It was not until mid-July that a 51-year-old woman from Kaufbeuren fell on this dangerous descent and died.
