The Director of Agriculture in Sweida, Engineer Ayham Hamed, revealed that the estimates of pomegranate production in the governorate for the current season recorded a noticeable increase compared to the previous season with the entry of new trees into the production phase, indicating that the areas planted with pomegranate increased from 1,270 dunums from the last season to 1,350 dunums for the current season.
Hamed said in a statement to SANA reporter: The Directorate of Agriculture initially estimated the governorate’s total production of pomegranate for the current season at 446 tons, 266 tons for rainfed and the rest for irrigated crops, pointing out that the total number of trees planted with pomegranate in As-Suwayda is about 60 thousand, of which more than 48 thousand Fruitful tree distributed in different regions of the province.
As-Suwayda Governorate produced about 382 tons of pomegranate during the last season.
