District – After a long back and forth, there now seems to be money from Deutsche Bahn to repair the ailing BRB rail network in the Oberland.

The Bavarian Regiobahn (BRB) groans under the dilapidated rail infrastructure of DB Netz AG.

Again and again, the trains between the state capital of Munich and the Oberland have to struggle with problems for which the company with its headquarters in Holzkirchen is not to blame.

But mostly the BRB employees get the trouble.

Now a solution seems in sight.

It was not until the beginning of July that the BRB repeatedly vented: "Error on the track, faulty points, replacement of sleepers, damage to the superstructure - whatever DB Netz AG gives as the reason for construction work and speed restrictions, the result is always the same: BRB trains are late.

This is now causing massive annoyance among the passengers, leads to enormous stress on the employees and also causes high costs.” Now the tide seems to be turning.

Florian Striebl, leader of the Free Voters parliamentary group in the Bavarian state parliament, has been observing the problems at the BRB with great concern for years.

The railway lines from Munich to the district of Miesbach are important: for guests from all over the world and above all for commuters from the region.

"Unfortunately, deficiencies in the rail infrastructure affect reliable and stable operation in this region," says the politician.

Due to the current situation, he therefore sought direct contact with Bavaria's Minister of Transport, Christian Bernreiter, in order to advocate for improvements.

The transport minister then sought contact with rail boss Richard Lutz at a top-level talk in Munich recently.

The result: The head of Deutsche Bahn has also pledged an amount of 80 to a maximum of 100 million euros for maintenance and modernization measures at BRB.

"The calls for help from the region have now apparently found a hearing in distant Berlin," sums up Florian Streibl.

"If now up to 100 million euros flow into the repair of the route network in the Oberland, a first important step has been taken to make the rail infrastructure fit for the future."
