Following the suspicion of the rape of a guard, the Minister of Internal Security claimed that it is not possible to completely remove the mandatory servants from the security prisons. the law"

A dispute between the Minister of Defense and the Minister of Internal Security following the suspected case of rape of a prison guard by a security prisoner.

As a result of the case, Gantz proposed to keep soldiers on mandatory service away from dealing with the security prisoners, Bar-Lev replied that "a change in the designation and manner of placing the mandatory maids in the service of the prisons requires a change in legislation in the Knesset."

As a reminder, following the suspicion of the case of the rape of a prison guard by a security prisoner, Defense Minister Benny Gantz sent a letter yesterday (Monday) to Minister of Internal Security Amr Bar Lev with a demand to immediately prohibit servicemen and women of the Shavas from staying with security prisoners, pending an in-depth investigation and thoroughness of the suspicions and the nature of the service.

"I believe that a service that involves dealing with security prisoners requires adequate and comprehensive training, and an in-depth acquaintance with the framework of the prison service, therefore it is necessary to consider whether this role should be performed by mandatory employees, assigned outside the IDF's SDF," wrote Gantz In the letter, he added: "It is necessary to examine under what conditions such a service can be held, and what are the conditions to maintain their safety and physical well-being."

In response, the Minister of Internal Security replied to him: "I would like to inform you that those mandatory maids deal exclusively with the security of security prisoners and escorts, as well as administrative duties related to the organization of personnel and care in particular, which will only be given to military ex-servicemen assigned to service in the Security Service and do not stay in the half of security prisoners.

Any stay of a mandatory maid in the presence of a security prisoner is against the guidelines and will be met with the full severity of the law.

In light of all that has been said, a change in the designation and in the manner of placing the mandatory maids in the service of the prisons requires a change in legislation in the Knesset."

"As you probably know, in the report published in May, the inspection team got the impression that all the servants in the prison service are satisfied with their service and even feel pride in the service they perform.

Thus, most of the servants have expressed a willingness to continue serving in the prison service on a permanent basis," continued the Minister of Internal Security. "I of course share with you the commitment to act together to ensure the peace and safety of the servants in the prison service (and in general), and propose to hold a joint dialogue on this between the ministry for internal security and the Ministry of Defense, which will be the basis for continued safe and adapted mandatory service for recruits."
