The president, Joe Biden, signed an executive order on Wednesday to make it easier for people who want an abortion to travel to other states in order to avoid local laws that restrict that right after the ruling against the Supreme Court.
One of his orders will allow states that protect abortion rights to apply for specific exemptions from Medicaid, which will help them treat women traveling from other territories.

The directive requires health care providers to comply with federal antidiscrimination laws and expedites the collection of key maternal health information for the National Institutes of Health and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). according to anonymous White House sources told The Associated Press news agency.
Biden, who remains isolated in the White House residence after suffering a relapse of COVID-19, is also preparing a federal task force on access to reproductive care, which will be led by Vice President Kamala Harris, officials explained.

The order, however, falls short of what Democratic lawmakers and abortion advocacy groups are asking of him following the Supreme Court's decision to overturn the landmark Roe v.
Wade.
One of his main requests is that he declare a public health emergency in relation to abortion.
White House officials consulted by the news agency believe that it would not serve to free up federal resources or activate legal protections.
