The BR bike tour stopped in Freising on Tuesday.

The citizens gave the cyclists a brilliant welcome - and partied until midnight.

Freising

– the cathedral city in the grip of the BR bike tour: On Tuesday, the entourage of 800 cyclists stopped in Freising and was welcomed in the city center by the people of Freising in the afternoon.

In the evening, the Luitpoldanlage saw a concert that should already be legendary: 10,000 people celebrated The Hooters.

All of this at temperatures that the term "bull heat" only roughly describes.

But the participants bravely braved the weather.

Reception with flags

Punctually at 4.20 p.m., the field drove into the old town of Freising - all of them happily waving at the audience, who in turn lined the main street, diligently with the city colors red and white, decorated with the city coat of arms and with the inscription "Welcome to Freising". printed flags and enthusiastically applauded the steadfast cyclists.

It took ten minutes for the entire peloton to drive past Mayor Tobias Eschenbacher and Minister of State Florian Herrmann before rolling into the Luitpold facility, led by a police motorcycle escort and led by a historic loudspeaker van.

Airy feats

The around 4,000 Freisingers who had come to the city center in the afternoon were offered a lot: the town band provided momentum, slackliner Friedrich "Friedi" Kühne - stylishly dressed in traditional costume - performed breathtaking tricks at a dizzy height between the Marcushaus and the Sperrerbank building.

The cyclists had covered 90 kilometers from Landau an der Isar and first looked for a shady spot in the Luitpold park to relax.

That was important, after all there was a big party waiting for the cyclists and everyone who wanted a beer garden, folk festival and rock concert atmosphere.

A sea of light blue

The BR had made a big splash: Dozens of refreshment stands had been set up where cyclists and visitors could get supplies - and certainly not only with cyclists.

Hats, which were distributed free of charge, protected against the sun, so that a sea of light blue head coverings could be seen more and more at the beer tables.

In the center of the Luitpold facility was the stage: large, equipped with screens and a lighting system that showed what it was capable of until midnight.

The musical prelude was made by the Bayern1-Band - a cover combo that was nothing, absolutely nothing foreign from pop-rock like Midnight Oil via Falco to 70s pop with Abba and Neue Deutsche Welle.

(By the way: everything from the region is now also available in our regular Freising newsletter.)

More and more fans gathered in front of the stage - after the "Vor-Hooters", as the Bayern1 band humorously called themselves, full of expectation for the main act of the day: The Hooters, the rock band from Philadelphia that was founded over 40 years ago and are still today consists of founding members Eric Bazilian, Rob Hyman and David Uosikkinen in key positions, with John Lilley and Fran Smith also having been Hooters since the 1980s.

10,000 celebrate with us

So legends of rock history who rocked the Luitpoldanlage after dark.

Around 10,000 fans wanted to experience the hits live with which the Hooters made rock history happy.

They were not disappointed: "All you zombies", "Boys will be boys", the sing-along anthem "Johnny B" or the always grandiose "500 Miles" made goosebumps.

Irish folk songs and reminiscences drove the dance-mad into their bones, along with a pinch of Johann Sebastian Bach and - hard to believe - ten seconds of the title melody from "Diesendung mit der Maus", cleverly integrated into a breathtaking drum solo.

A BR1 DJ played the last hour until midnight.

Then it was over with one of the biggest parties that Freising has ever seen.

On Wednesday morning the wonderful spook was over, the Luitpold facility was quiet again, the cyclists were on their way to Aichach.

But those who were there on Tuesday will not forget the day.
