A new era is dawning for the Schongau summer – admission is charged for the first time.

Some of the barriers at the fairgrounds have already been set up, and there are also stages and various booths.

The medieval spectacle starts on Friday.

The program runs from 12 noon to midnight for eleven days until August 15th.

Schongau – Visitors to the historic market will have to adapt: in the 20th year there will be a cash register for the first time.

Children under the age of 16 are free, everyone else pays five euros for the day ticket.

Silas Schmorell is already unpacking the small stamps for those day visitors who want to leave the site again.

If you want to visit the market more often, the season ticket for 15 euros is quickly worth it – you can get it in advance in the book gallery or at the ticket office on the festival square in Lechuferstraße.

There are also season tickets for visiting the market

There the fans of the historic market will then get a ribbon around their wrist.

The gastro area is open on weekdays between 11.30 a.m. and 1.30 p.m. without admission - so nothing stands in the way of eating during the lunch break.

“Charging admission is new territory for us too, we will still learn a lot,” says Manfred Wodarczyk, head of the Schongau Summer, who recently received the Schongau Volunteer Award.

He would have preferred it if you could have bought your ticket online in advance, but you couldn't do that anymore.

The expansion has been underway since the weekend

Since the weekend he, Max Diegruber and his team have been setting up.

Both stages, there is again a large one and a slightly smaller one, are already there, this year there is a tent for the beer stand.

There is haggling over centimeters as to how the beverage trailers and stands could best be set up - if necessary, the tent can be moved again with combined forces.

The whole Diegruber family is involved in the construction, Thomas Diegruber operates the forklift.

Those visitors who come to the market directly via the Himmelsleiter from the old town also have to get used to it, because they are first led to the entrance in the far east of the fairground.

600 meters of barriers and the shacks for the checkout are already in place.

Young boss introduces four-day week: "Sure we'll accumulate overtime at first"

The carnival club and the rural youth of Schwabsoien, who own the bars, lent a hand right away - "the fence was up within an hour", Wodarczyk is grateful for this help.

"There is still a lot of cohesion in the country, but unfortunately that's missing in the city," says the boss of the Schongauer Sommer.

The remaining barriers will only be set up once the umbrellas, toilet wagons and the large stands have been set up.

Mobile home parking space cannot be used for these eleven days, a replacement has been identified

The booths are then cleared when security and the stewards are in place, one steward for every 100 visitors, according to the requirements.

The security team headed by Stefan Junitsch will be there again, also in their 20th year.

Of course, the mobile home parking space cannot be used during the time of the historic market.

As with the historic market in 2019, the city wants to designate and sign a small replacement area at the Bahnhofstraße/corner of Buchenweg car park.

However, the supply of fresh water and the disposal of waste water is then not possible during these ten days.

There are no specially designated parking areas for visitors to the market.

According to Wodarczyk, there is a cooperation with the Plantsch for musicians, fierantes or the operators of gastro stands, where the showers can be used, for example.

But because the pool closes earlier in the evening than the market, an alternative solution was also found.

From August 5th to 15th new bands and new fans

From August 5th to 15th there is a lot on offer again, including new bands and new fierants.

There will be two camp lives this year, one on the premises for the whole time and a second over the long weekend.

So far, there have been an average of 4,000 to 6,000 visitors per day.

How it will be this year is difficult to predict.

Wodarczyk is excited to see how the new concept will be received.

"I could imagine that there could be a quite homely atmosphere due to the delimited area."
