It's about the choir and art treasures, Gothic sacristies and the fear of fire.

Fire protection in the former Tegernsee monastery complex is proving to be a difficult problem to solve.

Another on-site expert meeting is scheduled for August 9th.

Tegernsee – As early as 2017, the Archbishop’s Ordinariate pushed fire protection for the former monastery church of St. Quirinus right at the top of the priority list of measures to be taken.

The same applies to the two Gothic sacristies, which, with their fine vaults and the rare gray-on-grey painting, represent a treasure of art history.

The Gothic sisters lost their actual function 300 years ago, and there is a baroque sacristy for everyday church life.

And then there is the adjoining psallier choir, which hit the headlines because the Kreissparkasse Miesbach paid 1.5 million euros for a perpetual right of use in 2010 under its then CEO Georg Bromme.

As intricate as the building is,

this is how the negotiations between the various owners proceed.

However, the main problem is a common one: fire protection.

In order to finally solve it, representatives of the archbishop's office, the district office and the district savings bank will meet with architects and fire protection experts on Tuesday, August 9th.

The focus is on the goal of creating a second escape route for the psallier choir.

The 150 square meter room is to be used for events, but this is currently not possible due to fire protection.

District master builder Christian Boiger recently got things moving and took over the direction.

According to his assessment, an escape route could lead through the upper of the two Gothic sacristies via an existing staircase into the inner courtyard of the castle.

Psallierchor Tegernsee: Architects plan the escape route

In combination, an escape route for the church interior would also be conceivable.

An architect's office is working on the planning on behalf of both the district savings bank and the church.

The district savings bank has agreed to submit a planning application for the Psallierchor escape route.

Alexander Königer, as spokesman for the district savings bank, is not yet hoping for a breakthrough from the appointment in a small group.

"But we will discuss how to proceed." A decision could be made at a follow-up appointment in a larger group on September 15th.

All in all, it is not only about the escape route and its financing, but also about the maintenance of the psallier choir, in which there has been neither electricity nor water so far.

Psalli choir in the former Tegernsee monastery complex: currently only accessible via the grammar school

Negotiations have not made any progress in many years, but when asked, the archbishop's ordinariate now expressed interest in the sacred use of the psallial choir.

A partial use in the school pastoral would be conceivable, says press spokesman Hendrik Steffens.

The psallier choir was once part of the monastery church and can currently only be reached from the high school.

The archbishop's ordinariate is very reluctant to express itself about the realization of the escape route for the church itself.

Incidentally, the overdue restoration of the Gothic sacristies also involves the distribution of costs between church and state.

The ordinariate says that the plans for the restoration have been drawn up.

Voting is now taking place with the aim of starting construction work “in the near future”.

Then perhaps the inventory that has been moved to an art depot will return to Tegernsee.

In addition to candlesticks, figures and all sorts of oddities, this also includes relics such as the rib of Saint Corbinian.
