Kochel - The planned mountain and water rescue station in Kochel is being generously funded by the EU: there are almost 670,000 euros from the Leader pot.

It is the largest funding project from the EU leader pot in the period 2014-2022 in the district of Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen: there are almost 670,000 euros for the new building of the mountain and water rescue service in Kochel.

The total costs were estimated at 1.54 million euros.

But they will rise.

The start of construction is still in the stars.

Funding notice from the Department of Agriculture

In view of the dimensions, it was worth a press appointment for those involved: On Tuesday (July 2nd), Johann Kölbl from the Rosenheim Agricultural Office, which is responsible for the approval process of the Leader action group (LAG) Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen, presented the funding decision to the representatives of Municipality and blue light organizations.

As reported, the municipality of Kochel wants to set up a joint rescue station for the volunteers with its local mountain rescue service and water rescue service.

This is to be built on a property on the banks of the Kochelsee, near the current mountain rescue center.

Reason: The volunteers urgently need a home.

Helpers need a home

The mountain rescue station in the municipal property "is bursting at the seams and is getting a bit old," as Kochel's mayor Thomas Holz (CSU) said.

The organization has around 50 active members and 70 to 80 assignments a year.

The water rescue service at the homestead is even worse: it is spread over three locations in the village.

The old boathouse had a grace period for this season, but it has to be demolished at the end of the year, as local group board member Anton Simmeth told the Rundschau.

The two vehicles are housed in a mobile shelter and in a garage.

“We are divided between the dachshund garage and barn,” says district chairman Heinz Eger, looking forward to the new building: “The water rescue service will now have a home.

Estimated at around 1.54 million euros

The municipality is the promoter of the project and bears most of the costs.

The budget is 800.00 euros.

But the two rescue organizations "make a very significant contribution," as City Hall Chief Holz acknowledged.

Around 1.54 million euros were budgeted for the funding application.

But that was as of March 2021. A number that “will probably not be maintained”, as Holz already fears in view of the general increase in construction prices and material costs.

Donations welcome

The rescuers are happy about donations for the construction project: Bergwacht Kochel, VR-Bank Werdenfels, IBAN DE49 7039 0000 0103 7140 04, BIC: GENODEF1GAP.

Wasserwacht Kochel, Sparkasse Tölz-Wolfratshausen, IBAN DE13 7005 4306 0000 0012 22, BIC: BYLADEM1WOR.

The account runs through the Bavarian Red Cross - therefore indicate "Donation Wasserwacht Kochel" as purpose.

The two-storey building with its 26 by 12.50 meters has garages, an office, a kitchen and a training room.

Good for village community

So it's good that 669,252 euros flow from the leader pot.

It is the largest amount of funding for the local action group (LAG) Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen, says Andreas Wüstefeld from the LAG management.

LAG chairman and Benedktbeur mayor Anton Ortlieb (BBV) emphasized the cooperation in the project: "This is how a village grows together".

Which is a goal of the Leader program, as Ortlieb explained.

Start of construction is still unclear

Despite all the joy about the subsidy: When asked, Mayor Holz preferred not to give a timetable for the construction project.

Although the building permit has now been obtained (a large part is municipal property), the use in the area of the access road still has to be secured in the land register.

You will then start immediately with the tender and "start construction as soon as possible," says Holz.
