A big victory for the supporters of the right to perform an abortion in the United States, after the residents of the state of Kansas, which is considered rural and conservative, voted last night by a large majority against an amendment to the state constitution that would abolish the freedom to perform abortions in its territory.
In doing so, Kansas became the first state in the United States to guarantee a woman's right to her own body in the state constitution, after the Supreme Court's ruling from last month overturning the previous ruling on the subject that provided federal protection for abortions.
According to preliminary results, more than 60 percent of the country's residents who voted opposed the change to the constitution.
Taylor Hirth, a voter who showed up to show her support for the passage of the amendment, told the local media: "I am a rape survivor and the thought of my daughter getting an unwanted pregnancy and not being able to do anything about it made me boil, that's why I went out to vote."

The President of the United States, Joe Biden, published a message in which he welcomed the results.
"This vote makes clear to everyone what we already knew, the majority of Americans agree that women should have access to abortion and have the right to make their own health decisions," Biden wrote.
An emotional moment was recorded yesterday when the senator of the state of Kansas, Dina Sykes, was seen crying with joy and hugging her fellow legislators, while telling them that her skin was melting with excitement.
"It's simply amazing, it's great that the voices of the country's women were heard and that we proved that we care about the women's health," she told the British Guardian.
