The next heat wave has arrived in Bavaria and it's tough.

The German weather service warns that cooling will probably not come until the weekend.

Update from August 3, 9:50 a.m .:

The DWD warns of heat for the entire Free State on Wednesday and Thursday.

The temperatures are again reaching high summer values, especially in cities (see first report).

According to the forecasts of the German Weather Service (DWD), a cooling is only in prospect on Friday afternoon.

Thursday is supposed to be the hottest day: 32 degrees even in the Alpine valleys, 36 degrees are expected on the lower Danube, in northern Bavaria it is even up to 38 degrees.

“39 degrees cannot be ruled out on the lower Main itself,” explains a DWD expert.

Bavaria is groaning under the heat that has lasted for days – Friday will cool down

The all-time heat record of the Free State, which the city of Kitzingen set on July 5, 2015 with 40.3 degrees, is unlikely to be broken.

“In some places, however, record temperatures could occur at some stations based on August.” The previous maximum value in August for the station in Kahl am Main in Lower Franconia was 39.3 degrees.

On Friday it should still be said, but then a cooling off is in sight.

"From the second half of the day there could be the first showers and thunderstorms, which can also be stronger," says the meteorologist.

"Saturday and Sunday it will then be mostly changeable, also with further showers and thunderstorms." The dog days are not over yet and could bring more hot days afterwards.

First report August 2nd:

Munich – The heat and the extreme drought in Bavaria continue.

Franconia is particularly affected by the drought, which is why the first districts have already imposed rules on who can water how much and when.

The city of Nuremberg waters its trees with swimming pool water in order to save water.

The next heat wave hits Bavaria on Wednesday and is expected to last all week.

The German Weather Service (DWD) has even issued an official warning for numerous regions.

The official warning of heat applies throughout Lower Franconia and in large parts of Upper and Middle Franconia.

A “strong heat load” is expected between 11 a.m. and 7 p.m.

In the cities of Nuremberg and Regensburg, it should be said in particular that "due to reduced night-time cooling, especially in the densely built-up urban area", enormous heat stress is to be expected.

Temperatures across the Free State are expected to rise above 30 degrees on Wednesday.

The heat wave then reaches its peak on Thursday.

Then the temperatures in Lower Franconia climb back up to 37 degrees.

In the south, however, Munich residents also sweat at 33 to 34 degrees.

According to the current forecast, only Friday will cool down in Bavaria in the form of storms and thunderstorms.

The drought in Bavaria causes the water level in rivers (such as the Danube) to drop.

The heatwaves don't seem to be abating.

Weather in Bavaria: expert shocked - "Such a dry heat is more familiar from the Sahara"

"This year's drought is both the cause and effect of the hot summer weather," says a statement from

WetterOnline

.

The drought and extreme heat this summer have been unique since weather records began in Germany.

Record values of less than 15 percent were also measured for humidity.

"The air is bone dry this summer," explains meteorologist Björn Goldhausen.

"You're more familiar with such a dry heat from the Sahara."

According to the meteorologist, the drought can even last into autumn.

"Currently, there is not much to indicate that this vicious circle will be broken in the near future," says Goldhausen.

In the course of this week, strong thunderstorms will occur in some areas, but they will not solve the problem of the drought.” An alleviation of the drought can therefore only be expected in early autumn.
