The injured hunter died three days after a hunting accident on a rapeseed field in Thuringia.

The 50-year-old succumbed to his severe head injuries.

Saalfeld – During a hunt near Großkochberg in the district of Saalfeld-Rudolstadt (Thuringia), a hunter was hit by a bullet in the head.

The shot hunter (50) was seriously injured in the head during a so-called harvest hunt on Thursday.

His condition was critical.

Fatal hunting accident in Thuringia: Hunter dies from a serious gunshot wound

The 50-year-old hunter succumbed to his serious gunshot wounds, as the police in Saalfeld announced on Monday.

The police were already on Friday on a hunting accident.

Apparently it was a ricochet, reports the MDR.

Much is still unclear.

The investigation into the accident is ongoing.

Thuringia: ricochet occurs hunters in the harvest hunt

On Thursday evening, the hunter suffered a serious gunshot wound to the head during a harvest hunt in a rapeseed field.

In a harvest hunt, the hunters position themselves around a field that is being harvested.

The work scares game - especially wild boar - and can then be removed by hunters.

Serious hunting accident: Thuringian State Hunting Association urges caution

The Thuringian State Hunting Association warned of caution during harvest hunts at the weekend.

These would have to be well prepared, said the association's president, Ludwig Gunstheimer, to the MDR.

Hunters would always have to shoot from raised hides at a sufficient distance from the edge of the field.

Safety is always more important than hunting success.

Two serious hunting accidents had already occurred in Thuringia in 2018.

A hunter had been shot by his hunting companion near Unterwellenborn.

During a harvest hunt near Großsaara (Greiz district), a girl who was playing in a nearby garden was shot and seriously injured.

A battue in Lower Franconia (Bavaria) also ended fatally for one of the hunters in January 2022.

A ricochet led to fatal injuries in the man.
