The Kaltenberger Knight Games came to an end with one last brilliant show.

The organizers were then very satisfied with the success of the first knight's tournament since 2019. Over 100,000 visitors wanted to see the spectacle.

Kaltenberg

– "It was a wonderful season," summed up Heinrich Prince of Bavaria, Managing Director of the Ritterturnier Kaltenberg Veranstaltungs-GmbH.

At the end, Prime Minister Markus Söder even came to say goodbye to long-time stunt rider Frédéric Laforêt, who embodied the Black Knight for the last time this year.

It is doubtful whether Söder had imagined his flying visit to the medieval world that way.

When the father of the state descended the steps from the box seats with a small entourage of companions - including the CSU member of the Bundestag Michael Kießling, lord of the castle Luitpold Prince of Bavaria and his son Heinrich - there was applause.

Arrived in the arena, there were whistles for the father of the country, which he commented on with a brief "First listen, then disturb".

Söder then left it at a brief appreciation of Laforêt's performance, presented him with a Kaltenberger beer mug and disappeared to the next appointment, while the honoree did a few more laps of honor on his horse and was applauded by the full ranks.

The 56-year-old had been subscribed to the role of the Black Knight since 2005.

In the future, he will only work behind the scenes, choreographing the stunts and, as part of the directing team, ensuring smooth interaction between the French professional riders and the German amateurs.

After the compulsory break caused by the corona, a “strenuous vertical start” had to be made, according to Heinrich von Bayern.

Staff turnover was higher than usual.

Old hands among the employees had to take on new jobs, newcomers could hardly have been trained due to a lack of time.

"But everyone was highly motivated."

Knight's tournament spokesman Markus Wiegand enthused about a "great season with an almost soulful atmosphere".

More than 100,000 visitors came to Kaltenberg over the nine days of the event.

While the Saturdays were best used, the night tournaments on Fridays are still an "insider tip", says Heinrich von Bayern.

There were no accidents while riding or other incidents, and even the weather was perfect – apart from one rainy day.

A disappointment for the audience and organizers was the cancellation of the fireworks on the night of the jugglers, which should have been particularly large for the resumption of the knight games after the Corona break.

But the fire brigade and fireworkers decided “in rare unanimity” at short notice that the risk of fire was too great due to the drought.

While the cast and staff are now allowed to take a break, things continue seamlessly behind the scenes.

"Now comes the part that's the most fun - coming up with the story for next year," explains Heinrich von Bayern.

"After the tournament is before the tournament." There are also other events coming up in the coming weeks.

That's why he doesn't think about vacation for the time being - at most sleeping in a few times.
