There has never been anything like it in Neufahrn: a bicycle street.

Now, for the first time, the building committee has decided to build one.

Neufahrn

- The Massenhausener Straße between the S-Bahn station and Kurt-Kittel-Ring is the beginning.

And according to the cycle traffic concept decided by the municipality at the end of 2021, more are to follow.

The concept includes a network plan that depicts important (supra)local cycle path relationships and thus represents the basis for the catalog of measures.

In order to increase bicycle-friendliness, the safety of cyclists is to be increased in addition to the new construction of bicycle traffic facilities and by means of bicycle streets.

Cycle path connection with several sections

And that is exactly what will happen now: The cycle path connection between Massenhausen in the north and the south of the municipal area includes several sections.

The area between Kurt-Kittel-Ring and the S-Bahn station has also been identified as a potential bicycle route.

Reason: In the extension, the Massenhausener Straße connects the town center with the recreation area of the Mühlseen and the northern districts and thus represents an important connection for both everyday and leisure cycling. In addition, the structure of the Massenhausener Straße favors the construction of a bicycle street , because there are already safe crossing aids for cyclists at the respective end points.

(By the way: everything from the region is now also available in our regular Freising newsletter.)

A traffic light system is available on Kurt-Kittel-Ring, the S-Bahn station can be crossed via the ramp hall and underpass.

And there is no through traffic on Massenhausener Strasse either.

Prioritization of the Massenhausener Straße was discussed

And under traffic law, there is nothing wrong with declaring this section a cycle lane.

The residential area north of the railway tracks is designated as a 30 km/h zone, which can be combined with the legal requirements for a bicycle street.

The cycle lane will continue to be passable for all road users, but high priority will be given to cycling.

During an on-site meeting with the road traffic authority and the Neufahrn police, the possibility of preferential treatment of the Massenhausener Straße over the other residential streets was discussed, but not recommended.

Two dissenting voices from the FW and CSU

Frank Langwieser (CSU) and Christopher Aichinger (FW) voted against the construction of the bicycle street: Langwieser argued that the street is already well suited for cyclists anyway, so you don't have to invest any more money - 9300 euros are estimated.

Aichinger would have preferred it if the concept was not implemented selectively but in larger units.

Nevertheless: Signs will soon show the beginning and end of a cycle street, and pictograms on the ground will also be marked.

Important: Public relations is required.

Because there has never been anything like it in Neufahrn.
