Prince William knows strict court protocol inside out.
Close physical contact is actually frowned upon in aristocratic circles, but in the emotional final of the Women's European Championship it didn't matter to the football-loving Duke.
The players were allowed to get very close to the British royal.

More than 87,000 enthusiastic spectators watched the final of the 2022 European Women's Championship at London's Wembley Stadium, and the "Lionesses" finally won the classic Germany against England 2-1.
Prince William was also excited on site, and at the award ceremony that followed, the royal football fans were finally able to personally congratulate the national team.
The Duke of Cambridge was promptly infected by the exuberant party atmosphere that prevailed in the stadium.
Members of the royal family rarely come face-to-face in front of the camera, but William made an exception for the European champions.
Defender Leah Williamson (25) and her colleagues took the unique opportunity and shared a warm hug with Queen Elizabeth II's grandson (96).

Kate Middleton's (40) husband's royal breach of protocol was also well received by viewers in front of the screen.
Instagram users commented on the surprising scenes at the award ceremony with the words "Such a nice warm gesture" and "William is beaming with pride".

Prince William has returned visibly relaxed from his break of several weeks.
The royal family did not want to reveal where the Cambridge family spent their vacation.
In the summer, William and Kate can usually be found in Scotland, where they own a cottage near Balmoral Castle.
