Munich's sidewalk cafés are popular - but apparently not everywhere.

In Maxvorstadt, a sidewalk café has been more or less empty for months.

Residents are angry, now the city has reacted.

Munich – Feast outside – there is still great interest in the sidewalk cafés in Munich.

But not everywhere.

At the corner of Dachauer/Erzgiessereistrasse (Maxvorstadt), there is frustration at the Freischank area.

The "Mekong Bar" does have a sidewalk café.

However, this is not managed.

Resident and ex-FDP city councilor Michael Mattar is upset.

After all, parking spaces are rare, neighbors have already complained.

It is one thing to make parking spaces accessible to the public or the catering trade, but then they also have to be used.

Schanigarten in Maxvorstadt: "New operator does not seem to feel responsible"

Mattar reports that there has been a change of operator.

"And the new one either doesn't seem to feel in charge or doesn't care.

The flowers from October are still there.” Since January, the business has only been open in the evenings, and the

editorial team could not reach the owner.

But even with the predecessor, the Schanigarten was never really visited.

It's remarkable that the city isn't responding, says Mattar.

"Apparently there is no one in the administration who checks whether the sidewalk cafés are actually being used."

Meanwhile, Munich restaurateurs will probably have to pay again for the use of outdoor areas.

The hosts are asking for more time.

Munich: KVR dismantles sidewalk cafés in Maxvorstadt

A spokesman for the district administration department disagrees.

Because of complaints from residents about the optical condition, the district inspection checked the Schanigarten in June.

"It was at least partially in operation there, and the operator was made aware of his obligation to maintain it." However, there is basically no obligation to dismantle the areas if they are temporarily not used.

But that has now happened.

After the press inquiry, the administration removed the boards.

Apparently the operator had no interest in the ghost garden after all.
