The Surfwelle project in Wolfratshausen is history.

The association has dissolved.

The mayor now comments on this and pays respect to the volunteers.

Wolfratshausen - The end of the surf wave project in Wolfratshausen is sealed.

As reported, the Surfing Wolfratshausen association announced its dissolution on Monday.

If desired, donations will be refunded.

In a press release, the head of the town hall, Klaus Heilinglechner, commented on this step.

The mayor pays his respects to the volunteers: "It's unbelievable what a great achievement the association has achieved" - for example with the "donation miracle" a good two and a half years ago: At that time the project was about to end, "practically overnight a funding gap of several thousand closed euros”, Heilinglechner remembers.

The initiative raised around 63,000 euros.

The association also refinanced a "significant part of the project budget through operations and returned it to the city".

Surf wave in Wolfratshausen is history: "Financial risk too high"

Massive cost increases, which Heilinglechner attributes to the corona pandemic and the war in Ukraine, among other things, have now led to the final ebb of the wave.

"The financial risk for the city is too great to continue the project." 142,000 euros were missing recently.

It is currently a concern of the municipality to consolidate the budget, as a result "the financial leeway for the city of Wolfratshausen has decreased considerably".

Wolfratshauser Surfwelle: The project started in 2013

The project, which started in 2013, triggered "a great wave of enthusiasm" in Wolfratshausen.

The mayor ends his letter with words of thanks to everyone involved: “A lot was achieved together, sometimes obstacles had to be overcome or bridges built.

There was a lot of communication, laughing and celebrating.

A great spirit came to town.

Hopefully we can keep some of that.”
