The Russian Ministry of Defense announced the deterioration of the situation in the area of responsibility of the Russian peacekeeping forces in the Karabakh region between Armenia and Azerbaijan today.
Russia Today quoted a ministry statement: “The situation has worsened in the area of responsibility of our peacekeeping forces in the Saribab Heights region, as the Azerbaijani forces violated the ceasefire,” noting that the leadership of the Russian peacekeeping unit along with representatives of the Azerbaijani and Armenian sides will take measures to restore stability to the region.
For its part, the Armenian Foreign Ministry confirmed that the Azerbaijani forces violated the ceasefire agreement in the Karabakh region.
"We consider the statements of the Azerbaijani side that are trying unilaterally to change the legal system in the Lachin Corridor as unacceptable," the Armenian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
In November last year, Azerbaijan and Armenia, under the auspices of Russia, reached a ceasefire agreement that ends a conflict in the Karabakh region that lasted for about a month and a half.
The territory and the corridor connecting the territory of Armenia to it, and it also included lifting restrictions on the movement of transportation and transit, the exchange of prisoners between the two parties to the conflict, and the return of the displaced.
