The Supreme Judicial Committee for the elections of members of local councils has completed all preparations in preparation for receiving citizens wishing to nominate for administrative units, whereby judicial sub-committees and nomination committees have been formed.
In a statement to SANA reporter, the head of the Supreme Judicial Committee for Elections, Judge Counselor Jihad Murad, pointed out that the submission of candidacy applications starts from the day following the date of publishing the decree that set the date for holding elections in the Official Gazette for a period of seven days, from 8 am to 8 pm.
Judge Murad pointed out that the number of judicial sub-committees is 14 in all governorates, and the number of nomination committees has become 35 after adding a fifth committee to the governorate of Rif Dimashq, pointing out that the Supreme Judicial Committee for Elections was keen to increase the nomination committees so that those wishing to nominate could easily submit their application, especially since they It is expected to witness a massive turnout of citizens for the nomination.
According to Judge Murad, the nomination committees receive the applications of candidates in the governorate centers, and the accepted names will announce their candidacy applications within 5 days from the date of the end of submission of applications, noting that the candidate has the right to object to the decision of the nomination committee before the subcommittee within 3 days starting from the day following the date of the announcement Names of those accepted, and the committee decides on the objection within 3 days from the date of its submission, and its decision is final to accept or not.
The candidate is also entitled to submit a request to withdraw from the nomination before the Nomination Committee before announcing the acceptance of his candidacy application.
Judge Murad indicated that a meeting was held today with the heads of the sub-committees and the heads of the nomination committees for all the governorates, where it was emphasized that the judicial committees supervised the entire election process, starting from the nomination until the announcement of the final results, and that all necessary measures were taken to ensure its freedom, integrity and control, and to work with absolute impartiality and implementation. The law regulating the elections is strictly in order to guarantee the freedom of the voter to choose who represents him and to guarantee the rights of the candidates to observe the elections.
Judge Murad pointed out that, in coordination with the governors, the polling stations will be identified and what is necessary for them to ensure that the elections are conducted smoothly and in accordance with the regulating laws.
Today, President Bashar al-Assad issued Decree No. 216 of 2022 setting the eighteenth of next September as the date for the election of local council members.
