Feldafing – Feldafing needs a new fire station.

The majority of the local council voted in favor of the area around the old town hall (Villa Maria) as the location.

The villa extension, which currently houses a restaurant, among other things, is to be demolished for this.

At the most recent municipal council meeting, a planning office presented three possible construction variants as part of a feasibility study.

How the members of the municipal council and the fire brigade comment on the construction variants presented.

From a total of seven designs, Sebastian Kittelberger from the Dasch Zürn + Partner architects' office in Stuttgart is showing three of his favorite designs.

According to Kittelberger, the presentation was preceded by preliminary talks with the community.

The municipality has expressed its wishes.

His office has specialized in the planning of fire station buildings, numerous such buildings have already been realized.

"There are standards, but every fire department ticks differently," he says in Feldafing and immediately goes into the specifics of the local fire department.

"Communication is of central importance here." With the new building, the aim is not only to take functional aspects into account, but also "to attract new, young people".

In addition, value is placed on a good public image of the new building in a central location.

The location was determined as part of a feasibility study, Kittelberger looks back.

The ongoing efforts of a local group of people will not be discussed at the meeting.

She is against the construction of the villa because she would like to keep the annex with the restaurant as a meeting place.

The fire station is to be built on the 3,356 square meter site with the 230 square meter old town hall, with the decorative villa continuing to have an effect as such.

Kittelberger explains how the room is used and a possible room arrangement "for fast and collision-free processes" and also addresses planned noise protection measures.

Municipal council vote for a free-standing fire station

In addition to a free-standing variant with a new building of 947 square meters (variant 1), the planner presents an extension to the old town hall with an area of 848 square meters, in which the old town hall is integrated into the existing building (variant 2).

As well as a third variant, in which the new fire station building is only structurally adjacent to the old town hall, but this is not used.

All variants contain the modern facilities of a fire brigade and a lounge area for training, youth and community care on the upper floor.

"You can't save," says Kittelberger, after all, a fire brigade is worth its weight in gold for a place.

A facade and roof solution does not yet exist for the new fire station in Feldafing.

The cubature was not the basis of the commissioned study.

What should be interesting for the citizens is the fact that the planner also designates storage rooms for the municipality in the basement.

Because these are currently also available in restaurant cultivation.

They are used by clubs, among other things.

The planned full basement also makes it possible to integrate a shooting range, said Sontheim when asked by municipal councilor Sibylle Härtl (Bündnis 90/Die Grünen).

This is also currently in the villa extension.

By including the old building in variant 2, a central foyer and a roof terrace could be created.

However, according to Kittelberger, the division is not ideal in this variant with different storey heights.

Building variant 3 is optically subordinate to the neighboring town hall villa

It is variant 3 that everyone likes best.

The planner also favors this version.

In contrast to Variant 1, the building is turned slightly away from the villa in order to make optimal use of the property and not to damage the look of the listed old building.

The roof design is still open.

According to Kittelberger, everything is possible, from saddle roofs to pent roofs to flat roofs.

With an appropriate design, the unique position of the old town hall could be further improved.

Mayor Bernhard Sontheim and the majority of the municipal council voted in favor of Variant 3 with two dissenting votes.

Fire brigade commander Dirk Schiecke was given the opportunity to position himself on the planning.

For him, the priority is for the new fire station to be built “as quickly as possible”.

Although he prefers variant 3,

he comments critically on a possible joint use.

"We want to adapt the rooms to our use," he said.

"If you have someone else on the property, trouble is inevitable." The commandant would also like to know whether the current use of the Villa Maria by low-traffic tenants will continue, as the mayor has promised.

Both parties accommodated in the building are not crowd-intensive and have expressed the wish to remain in the building.

Before the municipal council speaks out with one dissenting vote for the construction of a new fire station on the site without the inclusion of the old town hall villa and with two dissenting votes for variant 3, municipal councilor Matthias Schremser (CSU) expresses his pleasure that the realization of the fire station is on is fundamentally possible at this point.

He also expresses his appreciation for the fire brigade, which had twelve deployments the night before the municipal council meeting due to storm damage.

"We want to show our appreciation for the fire department and encourage volunteer work," says Schremser.

The council commissioned the planner to mark the minimum variant in the plan and to show that the planned variant goes far beyond that and offers optimal conditions for volunteering.
