The Central Franconia police are currently dealing with a serious accident on the A9 towards Nuremberg.

Three cars crashed, a woman lost her life.

Lauf an der Pegnitz - A tragic accident claimed a life on the A9 on Wednesday afternoon (3 August).

According to the police, an 82-year-old woman was driving her red Seat on the wrong side of the road towards Berlin.

Shortly before the Lauf-Hersbruck junction, the wrong-way driver crashed into two cars that were also driving on the lane, but in the intended direction (direction of Nuremberg/Munich).

Wrong-way driver accident ends fatally on the A9: any help comes too late for a woman

"The force of the impact caused the 82-year-old woman to suffer such serious injuries that she died at the scene of the accident," said the Middle Franconia police.

Fortunately, the two drivers of the two other cars involved (60 and 79 years old) were only slightly injured.

The traffic police inspection Feucht has started the investigation to clarify the accident on site.

By order of the public prosecutor's office, an expert was also consulted.

At the moment (as of 3.30 p.m.) the A9 in the area of ​​the accident site in the direction of Nuremberg is completely closed for the duration of the rescue measures.

Traffic will be diverted to the Schnaittach junction.
