Tunisia: returning foreign customers, without Russians or Ukrainians

REPORT - The sector, which normally represents 14% of Tunisian GDP, seems to be on the rise this season, despite the absence of the Russian market.


In Port el Kantaoui

“We change deckchairs following the sun,”

smiles Joackim Arcade before joining Sylvie Caron, his partner, in the water.

The couple from Le Mans offered themselves a fortnight at the Le Soleil Abou Sofiane hotel, in Port el-Kantaoui, near Sousse (150 km south of Tunis).

The establishment, 35% full in the first half of July, hopes to take advantage of the revival of Tunisian tourism after two years marked by the Covid and multiple events that have undermined the sector.

In the meantime, the Manceaux benefit:

 We are in a quality hotel, full enough not to appear sad and empty enough so that we do not have to queue at the buffet and that we have space on the beach."

After two years almost at a standstill due to the pandemic, 2022 must be the year of recovery.

In April, the Minister of Tourism announced a target of

“50% to 60% of the results recorded in 2019”.
