A cross-section of the creative happenings at the lake can be seen at the 46th Bernried Art Exhibition.

To paraphrase one visitor: "Oh my God, that's beautiful."

Bernried - "Bernried is an artists' village, that ennobles us," said Mayor Georg Malterer - and was proud that the community was continuing the tradition of great predecessors such as Wilhelm Leibl and Lovis Corinth.

Not outdated, but still fresh and innovative after four and a half decades: The 46th Bernried art exhibition is a cross-section of the creative happenings at the lake, designed by 34 artists, spread over four exhibition locations.

Bernried art exhibition: 1000 square meters of exhibition space in the summer cellar

The opening showed, with the best walking weather, that you can easily spend a day getting inspired: A small show is housed in the arched hall in the monastery courtyard and in the Salettl of the "Drei Rosen" inn.

The Buchheim Museum has cleared the event hall for a selection.

The centerpiece, however, is the summer cellar, freshly and stylishly renovated: the brick arched halls alone are worth a look.

On 1000 square meters of exhibition space, an immense, large-format abundance of works is perfectly timed.

Landscape magic, lifelines, experimental splashes of color, enigmatic portraits, comic-like, border crossings between im- and expressionist striving and again and again the essence of a motif, a region, a mood, far away from realism, filtered, condensed and therefore felt all the more intensively: All that's what you have to experience.

It almost seems as if a counterpoint was being sought to the restless and unfunny times, an outlet after the last pandemic-restricted exhibitions.

Conclusion of a visitor: "Oh my God, that's nice." You don't have to do anything against that - except maybe the touching installation in a niche, which thematizes a (re)fuge behind reeds.

Bernried art exhibition: Surprises are guaranteed

In the center of the rooms is the sculpture, which stands out in many ways.

Bronze selfie queens cavort, time-outs become tangible in the form of sculptures.

There a bark woman peels out, a door leaf butterfly, here a faun greets with cunning charm.

Shimmering, coated ceramic shows the three-per-thousand face and the young-tongued "Diggä".

Bronze pigs in a handstand or floating on clouds involuntarily cause a smile.

And intricate kinetic sculptures can be set in motion by visitors themselves: surprises guaranteed.

The Buchheim Museum was also visibly pleased to be giving space to the exhibition format for the sixth time: For director Daniel J. Schreiber, the "experimental thinking" that the art presents is vital, solidarity in its emotionality and ultimately an evolutionary factor.

Accordingly, the contemporary creative interventions extend into several exhibition areas.

The exhibition

can be seen in the Sommerkeller, Klosterhof and Salettl until August 15th: weekdays 2 p.m. to 7 p.m., Sat/Sun/holidays 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
