Bad Tölz - As reported by the Bad Tölz police inspection, a 50-year-old woman from the southern district was the victim of a so-called love scamming fraud.
The English-language term "love scamming" describes a form of internet fraud in which fake profiles in online dating sites are used to fool the victims into falling in love with the aim of surreptitiously obtaining financial support.
US major in love turns out to be a scammer
That's what happened to the woman from the Tölz area.
She had met a man on Facebook a long time ago who was posing as a major in the US Army.
After establishing an alleged relationship, the man pretended to be in financial distress and got the woman to transfer 11,000 euros to an account.
Victim notices "false love" too late - police are groping in the dark
In the end, the victim suspected that everything was not going right and, after doing her own research on the Internet, she realized that she had been the victim of a scam.
She then filed a complaint.
However, according to the police, there is little evidence of the perpetrator and clues.
This makes it difficult to draw conclusions about the fraudster.
