Classical music and classical horsemanship are to be combined on Friday (5 August) in the arena of Kaltenberg Castle to form a total work of art.
"Carmina Burana Cavallo" is the name of the open-air event.
Kaltenberg
- The performance of Carl Orff's Carmina Burana, staged especially for Kaltenberg, with the Salzburg Philharmonic, the Mendelssohn Vocal Ensemble from Munich, the Tölzer Boys' Choir, three soloists and 32 horses was an idea from Florian Zwipf-Zaharia, the long-standing organizer of the Orff Festival Andechs Ammersee.
When the idea was brought to Prince Heinrich of Bavaria, he was immediately enthusiastic.

“Kaltenberg is a place that harmonizes very well with horses.
And it's a great idea to support a concert with horse choreography," said the managing director of the Ritterturnier Kaltenberg Veranstaltungs-GmbH at the press conference.
"This will be a party."

The horses are so-called Isabella – that's the name of the light coat color, originally a genetic defect, which was then bred because people thought they were so beautiful.

The horses had just arrived and did their first laps through the arena in front of the photographers' cameras.
Together with director Katrin Stolz, Zwipf-Zaharia selected special animals for the show, including noble Lusitanos from the Portuguese Riding School in Lisbon.
Baroque horse breeds like these are predestined for show riding, says Stolz.
"They have strong nerves, but are also stubborn." There is a very special connection between the animals and their riders.
For the men, the horses had "a higher value than the wives".
Another group from Portugal presents Garrocha riding – feats involving shepherds' sticks over ten feet long that are lit at one end.
The Belgian Iseulys Deslé will present a liberty dressage with six champagne colored geldings.
Stolz does not hide the fact that the production is "an unbelievable challenge" for everyone involved, especially since there are also various show effects.
Meanwhile, the choir singers and musicians have come together in Salzburg to rehearse together under the direction of Elisabeth Fuchs.
The day before the performance, all participants meet for the first time in Kaltenberg to bring together the individual elements of the show.
The soloists are Gloria Rehm (soprano), Johannes Kammler (baritone) and Andreas Fischer (tenor).
For Zwipf-Zaharia, the fact that it is played and sung live is essential for the effect of the show, even if the sound has to be amplified in order to unfold the same power outdoors as in the concert hall.

Since the Carmina Burana lasts just under 70 minutes, an opening act with the world music quartet Quadro Nuevo is planned.
The group plays their program “End of the Rainbow” with the Salzburg Philharmonic.
