The most powerful splinter group of the former Farc guerrillas has offered a ceasefire to Colombia's president-elect, Gustavo Petro, to find a "
political solution
" to the conflict, according to a letter leaked on Wednesday (August 3rd).
This letter dated July 31 was published on Wednesday by several media, with a video showing about twenty men and women in camouflage uniforms and armed with rifles.
Find “a political solution”
The group, known as the "
Bloque Suroriental
" and which had refused the peace agreement signed in 2016 between the Farc and the Colombian government, proposes to create "
by mutual agreement
" with the new executive a "
climate conducive to a bilateral ceasefire agreement
”.
This agreement would make it possible to find "
a political solution to the violence
", says the letter.
Outgoing Colombian President Iván Duque announced on July 15 that the army had killed the leader of this dissident Farc group, Nestor Vera, alias “
Ivan Mordisco
”.
Gustavo Petro, an ex-guerrilla and former senator who will succeed Iván Duque on Sunday, has affirmed his intention to achieve "
