Customs detected a drug trafficking case in the middle of last month. After further investigation, an industrial building located at No. 35 Jue Luk Street, San Po Kong was identified as suspected to be related to the case.
As of today (April 4), officers have arrested a man involved in the case in Kwai Chung and escorted him back to the building unit involved for search, and seized a batch of crack cocaine with a market value of about $1.4 million.
The arrested man was 25 years old and reported to be a transport worker.
The investigation showed that the suspect rented the industrial building unit involved in the case for about half a year.
Customs officers did not seize any drugs from the suspect, but officers later held a court warrant and escorted him to the above-mentioned unit for investigation. As a result, two paper bags were found in the unit, containing a total of about 1kg of crack cocaine with a market value of about 1.4 million yuan .
At the same time, officers seized a batch of drug packaging tools, including electronic pounds, hot air vents, and a large number of paper bags and compact bags.
The area of the unit involved is about 100 square feet. Customs believes that this operation has successfully smashed a drug distribution center active in East Kowloon.
The case is still under investigation and more arrests cannot be ruled out.
Under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, trafficking in a dangerous drug is a serious offence. The maximum penalty upon conviction is a fine of $5 million and life imprisonment.
