To meet the needs of its customers, deprived of an internet connection due to disasters, Orange has put in place technical responses.

Those who no longer have access to the fixed network were offered 200 GB of additional data on the move, enough to access the Internet from their laptop without filling their data envelope included in their package.

Consumers who do not have a smartphone have the option of going to an Orange store to obtain an Airbox, ie a box for creating a Wi-Fi network from a mobile connection.

Mobile antennas burned

Indeed, with some 200 poles gone up in smoke and 11 kilometers of damaged cables, the fixed network (ADSL and/or fiber) is the hardest hit.

We hope to be able to complete all the diagnostics in mid-August and repair in stride

.

The priority is to restore the connection for our customers since they had the opportunity to return home.

Following the supervision tests carried out by our teams and in the context of an ongoing field diagnosis, we estimate that to date we have around 600 lines impacted.

“, explains Eric Arduin, Orange regional delegate, in the southern part of New Aquitaine.

Subscribers must therefore be patient and hope for a return to normal before the end of the summer, even if the first interventions have already taken place this week in the Teste-de-Buch area to repair the damage caused. by the flames.

The operator also encourages consumers who see firsthand damage to installations to report them on its dedicated website.

Mobile connections were also affected by the fires, with two sites burning in the area.

For the first, installed in the Louchats area, Orange has deployed a temporary mobile site, allowing the mobile network to be brought back to the inhabitants.

The second site impacted is still inaccessible, for security reasons.

While waiting for the green light from the authorities, Orange has made adjustments to its network, nearby antennas have been redirected to bring network to the area concerned.

Customers affected are both permanent residents and tourists.

For its part, Bouygues Telecom estimates that 200 of its customers have been impacted in the sector.

However, it will take “

some time

” to get back to normal.
