In preparation for the national campaign for early detection of cancer, which will be launched next month in Hama Governorate, the health district in Al-Suqaylabiyah in the countryside of the governorate held an awareness seminar with the participation of a crowd of people.

In statements to SANA, Dr. Bashar Bakour, Head of the Reproductive Health Division in the Hama Health Directorate, stated that the aim of the symposium was to educate people about the cancers targeted by the campaign and the beneficiary age groups, so that their data would be recorded through special platforms to communicate with them to ensure complete readiness and success of the campaign.

In turn, Dr. Anwar Ali, director of the health zone in Al-Ghab, stated that the campaign lasts for 45 days and includes the various regions of Hama and focuses on discovering three cancers, namely, breast, cervix and prostate cancer in men.

Ali pointed out that the campaign in Suqaylabiyah will be implemented through the National Hospital and 4 mobile clinics equipped with a mammograph with a mobile laboratory to take a cervical smear and draw men’s blood to analyze the prostate, noting that these clinics were distributed over the entire geography of the Al-Ghab area, with means of transporting citizens in remote areas.

Awareness of women about the importance of early detection of breast and cervical cancer is one of the pillars of the campaign, as mentioned by the midwife Nawal Mousa, the Reproductive Health Officer in Al-Ghab, calling on all women to conduct a monthly self-examination starting from the age of twenty.

A number of women presented their stories of confronting the disease, as Reem Abdo Muhammad and Georgette Hanna Daaboul told how they dealt with cancer from the first moment of discovering the infection, receiving treatment, performing surgery, and sticking to life for the sake of their families and children, and their quest for their disease not to affect their duties until full recovery.
