The blackboard has never been taken down from the old classroom of Biscarrosse plage, a room that houses associations all year round.
But in the summer, more than 700 patients are treated there each year in what becomes a reception and first aid center (Caps).
To carry out the transformation, the emergency doctor Bernard Fontanille affixed to the wall two anatomical boards, installed an examination table on the tiles and mounted a medicine cabinet.
Created in 2001, the Caps provides
"the permanence of care, primary and secondary emergencies"
, explains Fabien Farge, emergency doctor at the origin of the project.
In Biscarrosse, a seaside resort in the north of the Landes, the population is multiplied by seven in summer.
However, there are only two general practitioners in the beach area, for more than 40,000 summer visitors.
The hospitals are far away: an hour and a half for emergencies in Mont-de-Marsan;
45 minutes for those of Arcachon, already faced with an influx of patients in the summer.
