The Likud election committee today (Thursday) rejected the candidacy of his uncle Laniado, who was the leading contender in the primaries for the Tel Aviv district.

This, following the concealment of information about his criminal past.

Laniado was convicted of breaking into houses in 2011, and yesterday it was published on News 12 that a year earlier he was sent to house arrest for assaulting a woman.

Following the publication, the election committee decided to re-discuss the petition of candidate Dor Haralf, who in recent weeks tried to disqualify Leniado's candidacy, accepted the petition and announced his disqualification.

The chairman of the Likud's election committee, Judge Menachem Naaman, who disqualified the candidacy, said that " When the fact that Mr. Laniado was convicted of additional criminal acts was brought before us, it seemed that I should trust the will of the majority of the members of the election committee, and order the disqualification of Mr. Laniado's candidacy - and so I order."

Laniado is considered close to Likud MK David Bitan, and in recent weeks Likud Chairman Benjamin Netanyahu has invested efforts to get him to withdraw from the race.

Among other things, Netanyahu pressured his spokesman, Yonatan Urich, to submit a candidacy for the Tel Aviv district slot in order to defeat Lenaido, but Urich withdrew his candidacy this week.

Later, Netanyahu also pressured his associate, the former journalist Boaz Bismut, to run in the Tel Aviv district against Laniado, but Bismut refused and preferred to run on the national list.

The slot reserved for the Tel Aviv district in the Likud list is placed 38th.

Nyado intends to appeal the disqualification, but he has less than a week left until the primaries.

Dor Haralf, who is submitting the petition against Leniado and running in the Tel Aviv district, said in response: "The Likud led by Netanyahu is a movement that must lead the State of Israel forward.

We must present a good and excellent list to the public in the November elections."
