District - Yesterday, Thursday, August 4, 2022, an elderly lady from the district of Garmisch-Partenkirchen became the victim of a similar case - the loot: again more than 50,000 euros.

Police warn against sneaky scam calls: just hang up!

Around 11:30 a.m. yesterday, the phone rang for a senior citizen aged over 90 in the Garmisch-Partenkirchen district.

At the other end, a whiny voice sobbing the following words into the phone: “Mom!

You have to help me.

I drove a woman to death and now I have to go to jail."

A fake police officer and a fake prosecutor join the phone call and suggest to their elderly victim that the alleged son could avoid jail time by paying high bail.

The frightened lady believes the false story and gives the callers candid information about her belongings, which she can quickly organize for her son's release.

The callers instructed you to bag any cash, jewelry, and valuables you had at home and have them ready for pickup.

Another police officer or a court cashier would come by her house.

The fictitious "colleague" appeared a short time later at the old woman's front door and accepted the alleged "deposit".

He then fled in an unknown direction.

The alleged "bail" for the release of the son is actually the booty of fraudsters in the amount of around 50,000 euros.

Their perfidious scams are well known, but unfortunately it is still mainly senior citizens who fall victim to the invented stories, which means that they sometimes lose horrendous sums of money.

As is usual in such cases in southern Upper Bavaria, in the case of the lady from the district of Garmisch-Partenkirchen, the criminal police inspectorate with central tasks takes over the investigation.
