The municipality of Peiting can report completion of their search for three ice masters faster than planned.

However, the fact that the positions were already filled on August 1st caused inquiries in the municipal council.

The municipality wants to regulate the cooperation with EC Peiting in the near future.

It's also about money.

Peiting – It was actually intended that the new ice cream masters would only start working in October.

At least that was the schedule in the advertisement for the positions for which the market town council had given the green light in April.

But now it went faster than expected.

The new employees already had their first day of work on August 1, as the municipal council announced on Monday.

However, the surprising news caused headaches for Herbert Salzmann (SPD).

Since the positions are only planned in the supplementary budget, there will be no position plan for the new staff until then, he complained.

In general, many things regarding future cooperation between the community and EC Peiting have not yet been settled.

A corresponding agreement is needed here, demanded the SPD parliamentary group leader.

"We should know

Mayor Peter Ostenrieder justified the early filling with the "fortunate coincidence" that all three candidates were available at short notice.

The municipality seized the opportunity, after all, the preparation of ice will start in mid-August, said the head of the town hall.

In this way, the new employees could accompany the season from the beginning and there was no need for a temporary solution, the mayor explained when asked by the local newspaper.

Mayor explains reason for hiring ice masters

The head of the town hall had already explained to the SN when the job advertisement became known why the community is now acting as an employer of three ice cream masters.

Previously, members of EC Peiting had taken over the ice cream and caretaker activities.

According to Ostenrieder, the association received annual compensation of 50,000 euros from the community.

A regulation that has worked well for years, as the mayor emphasizes.

However, the strict requirements associated with the operation of the refrigeration system could no longer be met with the volunteers, which got the municipality, as the operator of the ice rink, in trouble.

With the specialists who have now been hired, two of whom, according to the head of the town hall, still have to complete training, one is now on the safe side.

The new regulation will be significantly more expensive for the municipality

Financially, however, the restructuring means a tour de force for the municipality.

Ostenrieder puts the annual personnel costs for the ice masters at around 160,000 euros.

"It will be more expensive for the community than before." It is still unclear how the expense allowance that the market has paid to the ECP will continue.

Because the club will no longer have to worry about making ice and looking after the caretaker, there is actually no basis for this.

But of course the ECP must not get into financing problems as a result of the new regulation, emphasizes Ostenrieder.

"We don't want to take anything away from the club, it can't help it." What the new "calculation and cooperation package" will look like in the future will soon be clarified in talks with those responsible, said Ostenrieder.

There is also the question of whether the ECP will continue to rent out the ice surface to third parties in winter, as it has done up to now – an open point that Salzmann also addressed at the meeting.

"There are many adjustments, but I am sure that we will find a good solution," says the mayor optimistically.
