The association "Rettet den Tegernsee" does not give up.

He demands that the planning process to lower the level of the Tegernsee and to modernize the shoemaker's weir is resumed.

Rottach-Egern

– Even if water shortages are currently causing concern: The “Rettet den Tegernsee” association is fighting for sustainable flood protection.

And he does not give up on his demands for measures on Lake Tegernsee, even if a major project was stopped by the Free State in 2021 after 14 years of planning: the Tegernsee flood compensation, combined with an unusual and complex structure in the Mangfall outflow near Gmund and the modernization of the shoemaker weir .

Association requests information about the shoemaker's brigade

The association focuses on this weir in particular, which is owned by Büttenpapierfabrik Gmund and has been in the headlines these days because of the remuneration for energy production.

Through its lawyer Benno Ziegler, the association conducted a query at the district office in Miesbach according to the Environmental Information Act (UIG) and requested information on the regulations of the weir.

At the annual general meeting, the chairman of the association, Andreas Scherzer, informed the present 109 members about the most important answers from May.

Chairman Scherzer calls for a new decision on the defense

One question was whether the operator of the weir had always complied with his obligations under public law.

It was aimed at the new decision issued in 1986, which stipulates when the weir baffles are to be moved in order to accelerate the flow of Tegernsee water over the Mangfall.

"This decision is no longer available to the district office," Scherzer reported to his members.

He demands a new decision, since the circumstances have changed in the meantime.

The district office makes it clear: the weir is only used to generate energy

The association did not receive an answer to the question of what measures are being taken to ensure that the weir does not contribute to flooding.

It was also asked whether the climate surcharge of 15 percent was taken into account in the operating permit.

Here the district office made it clear that the weir is not used to regulate the flood discharge, but to generate energy.

A fact that the operator emphasizes again and again.

The climate surcharge does not have to be taken into account.

Flood compensation: Criticism of the underlying master's thesis

A master's thesis by a Rosenheim student was also taken up at the meeting, which had apparently been included in the evaluation of the flood compensation project, which was then stopped due to the poor cost-benefit ratio.

Scherzer criticizes the work: "As we know, not a single lake resident was asked about the damage caused by the 2013 flood." , says Scherzer and summarizes: "The master's thesis is not suitable as a basis for decision-making, so we reject it."

Association makes several demands on the state government

The association is making four essential demands on the state government: First, the actual damage caused by the 2013 flood must be determined.

An expert report that shows the flood scenarios at Tegernsee, taking into account last year's Ahr flood with 200 liters per square meter in two days, must be commissioned.

Third: The planning process for lowering the level of the Tegernsee and for modernizing or building a new shoemaker's weir must be resumed.

Finally, a new decision must be issued for the weir, with which the storage target of the Tegernsee is lowered from 725.71 to 725.41 meters above sea level (mNN).

The association wants to send these demands to the water management office, the environment ministry, to the mayor of the valley and district administrator Olaf von Löwis.

Desludging at Tegernsee is still an issue

The Schwaighofbucht also remains an issue, even though the association, as is well known, failed with its citizens' petition for desludging and the renaturation measures of the water management office have already been taken.

Scherzer and his comrades-in-arms are apparently already working on a new process for environmentally friendly desludging.

"It will be presented to us soon, and maybe it will be good for other places on Lake Tegernsee."
