5000 scouts have been in the federal camp in the Hochland youth settlement since Friday and until Monday.

There is a lot of effort behind it.

Königsdorf – The Geretsried owls had the shortest route, the Grupo de scouts Thomas More from Chile the furthest: Girl scouts came to Königsdorf from all directions.

A total of 5,000 camped out for ten days in the Hochland youth settlement.

Everyone comes together for a few events, but the scouts spend most of the ten days in smaller units.

Dominik (26) from the Marco Polo tribe in Pasing is sitting on the carpet in a yurt and strumming his guitar.

The yurt, a tent where you can stand and make a fire in the middle, is for the residence of your tribal group.

Around the yurt there are two more yurts and seven so-called Kohts, in which the Marco Polos, the owls and the Black Bunch from Würzburg and a few friends from Bordeaux sleep.

All scouts enjoy being together in Königsdorf, including the Geretsried owls.

Federal camp of scouts: Huge camp set up in Königsdorf

Dominik and the kitchen team cook for the 60 young women and men.

"There was tomato soup with croutons, lentil stew and French toast," reports the 26-year-old.

Each tribal group has a shared kitchen or yurt with stove and sink at the campsite.

To get the ingredients, you have to go across the entire camp.

The Association of Girl Scouts did not measure the square meters, but it is larger than the youth settlement site.

"Thankfully, the surrounding farmers have made their fields available to us, and the youth settlement has given us a lot of support," explains Fabian, who is in charge of public relations for the federal camp.

A total of 700 volunteers are involved in organizing the camp.

They planned the meeting for two and a half years.

The countless yurts and kohten - traditionally black because of the fireplaces - are sorted by federal state.

The local groups marked their sub-camps with wooden plaques with their names and fictitious street names like "Rainbow Boulevard" on them.

It is also customary to outdo one another with timbered towers or sculptures.

A weather vane hangs on one of the structures – fortunately it has been green since the beginning of the camp.

Federal camp has set up its own supermarket for scouts

The largest of all tents is the market hall, which is supplied by traders and bakers from the region.

"So that we don't buy all the supermarkets in the area empty," says Fabian with a smile.

Pallets of cornflakes, milk and pasta are piled up in the market hall.

There is no meat.

In a democratic vote, the Federal Assembly voted in favor of a vegetarian federal camp.

70 percent were in favour.

The Staufen tribe from Erding made an exception and bought extra pork neck in Bad Tölz.

Samuel sizzles it in an oven he built himself from an old barrel.

"We're having a birthday party today," explains the industrial mechanic.

On this occasion there is "delicious pulled pork".

Between meals, the scouts can attend workshops on the camp motto "Dreams of Life".

"We want to inspire dreams and ask ourselves what kind of world we want to live in tomorrow and what we have to change for it," says Fabian.

Excursions are also possible, you are standing on a board with the inscription "Rausebüro" - a play on words.

For the 20 owls from Geretsried they are of course not that exciting.

Nevertheless, the federal camp is "very special," says Valentin (15) from Geretsried.

"Everyone is your friend in the Boy Scouts."

Visiting day in the federal camp on Saturday

On the visiting day on Saturday, August 6, from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m., the scouts will give an insight into camp life and invite you to activities.
