Career counseling with a difference: together with Jean-Francois Drozak (front, center), seven high school students developed a podcast on care.

During the presentation (back, from right) Selahattin Mutlugüles (Klinikum Freising) and Sina Knierim (Heiliggeist Pflege Freising) came for the live interview.

As part of a project week, seven high school students from Moosburg focused on general specialist training and nursing studies.

A podcast was created.

Moosburg

- "What is the care of the future?" An answer to this question is given in a podcast that seven students from the Kastulus secondary school in Moosburg created together with Jean-Francois Drozak.

As part of a project week, the young people focused on general specialist training and nursing studies and interviewed experts from the region who work in nursing health professions for the radio play.

The results are everyday stories and touching moments that make it clear how important the job is - but also that care is definitely an exciting option for students with a higher school diploma.

Three job profiles, one apprenticeship

Retrospective: Nursing training in Germany is in a state of upheaval: While there used to be three professions, namely nursing, pediatric nursing and geriatric care, since January 1, 2020 these have been combined with the Nursing Professions Act to form a generalist training course with a qualification as a nursing specialist.

In other words: "Turn three into one", this is also the motto of this merger.

Reason: The requirements have increased due to medical progress, the treatments have become more complex and the proportion of patients in need of care and suffering from dementia has risen sharply.

For those who are interested, the general approach opens up "many fields of work", Drozak knows,

By the way: Everything from the region is now also available in our regular Freising newsletter.

Because it was not clear whether this event could take place in attendance at the Kastulus-Realschule Moosburg due to the corona, a podcast was created and recently presented to two eighth graders - a combination of podcast clips, live interviews and repeated everyday stories.

nurse in the hospital

With Selahattin Mutlugüles from the Freising Clinic, an expert in nursing came to the live interview.

He told the young people, for example, how important the nursing staff are for the patients in the hospital: "We are always the contact person for the patients - no matter what it is about." It is important to take the time and listen - in the best case to listen to come to a nursing diagnosis and thereby find out together with the doctor what is wrong with the patient or what is good for him.

Working in long-term care

Sina Knierim from Heiliggeist Pflege Freising, who has been working in a long-term care facility for many years, encouraged the students to do a short-term internship - to get an insight into the help that older people need - especially those suffering from dementia, for example.

It is also exciting to deal with the question of what constitutes care in the last phase of life - and what needs need to be satisfied in this phase of life.

When the students asked what she loves about her job, Knierim answered without hesitation: “I can help where people lose their skills.

That is beautiful."

Diverse work with children

Ilona Weidner from the St. Marien Children's Hospital in Landshut gave an insight into the work of nurses with children - not present, but in a pre-recorded interview.

Whether in the intensive care unit, in the emergency room or on the ward: sensitivity is required everywhere - both with the children and with the parents.

In addition to working in a children's hospital, the junior high school students found out that workers who enjoy working with the children are also needed in outpatient care, with a pediatrician or in the health department and here in particular for the school entrance examinations.

Training to become a "generalist"

The training to become a "generalist" lasts a total of three years and takes place both at school and in various institutions.

At the end there is the qualification as a nursing specialist.

In order to be able to start the training, either the middle school certificate or a secondary school leaving certificate with a successfully completed vocational training of at least two years is required.

The Contributors

The students Lara-Sophie Becker, Fabian Süss, Laura Stanojevic, Vincent Vohburger, Vadim Krutsch, Siam Hansen and Amelia Lipok (all 8b) created the podcast together with Jean-Francois Drozak.

They were supported by the teachers Monika Goller and Julia Benker as well as Rector Wolfgang Korn.

In the coming school year, the podcast link will be published on the Moosburg Realschule homepage.
