China has canceled a working meeting between representatives of the People's Republic of China and the US Department of Defense, in response to the visit of US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to the Chinese island of Taiwan.
A statement on the Chinese Foreign Ministry's website said: In response to Pelosi's visit to Taiwan, despite Chinese protests, the Chinese Foreign Ministry decided to cancel the working meeting between the People's Republic of China and the US Department of Defense.
The statement pointed out that China will stop dialogue at the level of the regional military commands of China and the United States, as well as meetings with US representatives within the framework of the Maritime Security Guarantee Mechanism.
The Chinese Foreign Ministry announced imposing sanctions on Pelosi and her family, while the Chinese Ministry of Defense announced that large-scale military exercises will be held in the vicinity of Taiwan, which will continue until next Sunday.
