Taiwan's defense minister announced today (Friday) that Chinese planes and warships crossed the maritime border towards Taiwan.

The minister accused the Chinese of creating a provocation, and at the same time, the military sent warnings.

According to him, Taiwan is ready for a confrontation, but the fighters were instructed to try to calm the spirits and not escalate the situation.

Yesterday an extensive exercise of the Chinese army began around the island.

At noon today, local time, state news network CCTV reported that "from 0012:00 noon to 12:00 noon on August 7, the military is conducting an important military training exercise that includes live fire. During the exercise, six main areas around the island were selected and during the period This means that ships and aircraft are not allowed to enter the relevant sea and air space."

"These areas may include Taiwan's territorial waters. Some of them are very close to major seaports. Taiwanese authorities have accused the Chinese military of a blockade - a very serious charge."

The office of the army's Eastern Command stated that "the Chinese Army's Eastern Command conducted extensive exercises today, including live fire around the island."

Taiwan's Ministry of Defense said its forces were "operating as usual" and monitoring the environment.

"We do not want an escalation, but we will not give in when it comes to our sovereignty and security," it said.

Ten minutes before the start of the exercise, the ministry accused the Chinese government of "irrational" behavior.

According to the ministry, "the purpose of the exercise is to change the status quo and disrupt regional peace and stability. The national army will continue to be alert, and the forces at all levels will conduct daily training," it was reported.

US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, who is in Cambodia, said that the United States opposes any unilateral effort to change the status quo regarding Taiwan, mainly through force, and that its policy towards Taiwan has not changed.

Stability on both sides of the strait is in the interest of the entire world, he said at the meeting.

"We and countries around the world believe that escalation serves no one and may cause unintended consequences that do not serve the interests of any country, including the members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), and including China," he said.
