The Chinese Foreign Ministry announced imposing sanctions on US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and her family members over her visit to the Chinese island of Taiwan.
"In ignoring China's serious concerns and resolute opposition, Pelosi insisted on visiting Taiwan, and this matter constitutes a flagrant interference in China's internal affairs, undermines China's sovereignty and territorial integrity, and seriously threatens the one-China principle, as well as threatening peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait," a ministry spokesman was quoted as saying by Xinhua. .
Last Tuesday, Pelosi made a provocative visit to Taiwan, despite strong warnings from China of the consequences, while the Chinese Ministry of Defense announced large-scale military exercises in the vicinity of Taiwan that will continue until next Sunday.
