A survey by Lingnan University’s Institute for Policy Studies found that nearly 80% of the respondents expected to go through customs without quarantine as soon as possible.
The Lingnan University research team interviewed more than 1,200 Hong Kong citizens aged 18 or above last month. Nearly 70% of their jobs were affected by the failure to clear customs in China and Hong Kong, and 30% of them lost their jobs or temporarily lost their jobs.
Since some Hong Kong people have been staying in the mainland for a long time, nearly 70% of them hope that the government will provide medical subsidies for Hong Kong people in the mainland and open telemedicine services.
The vice-president of Lingnan University, Mo Jiahao, who is in charge of the investigation, said that the investigation shows that the entry-exit quarantine measures in the two places have affected people's livelihoods and living patterns.
He believed that Hong Kong should strengthen communication and coordination with the mainland governments at all levels to create favorable conditions for "customs clearance", and suggested that the SAR government should adopt the strategy of "first easy and then difficult" and give priority to discussing customs clearance with Guangdong Province.
