Between April and June inclusive, French imports rose sharply, while exports were less dynamic than in the previous three months.

French foreign trade continues to deteriorate.

In a press release issued on Friday, customs indicate that in June, imports reached 62.1 billion euros, and exports 48.8 billion euros.

Over the month, the external balance was therefore 13.3 billion euros, a new record.

It " is

declining again, but at a much less pronounced rate for two months

", specify the services in a note.

Customs also draw up a broader assessment, looking back on the quarter that has just ended.

First, over one year, the balance sheet is striking: “

Together over 12 rolling months, the trade balance continues to deteriorate and reaches –121.9

” billion euros, reports the services.

Then, between April and June inclusive, French imports rose sharply, while exports were less dynamic than in the previous three months.

The growth of imports in value is driven for more than half by energy, mainly due to purchases of natural hydrocarbons, the price of which remains very high in a context of geopolitical tensions

”, indicate in particular the Customs.

In the second quarter, the trade deficit widened again, reaching 39 billion euros, compared to 32 billion euros in the first three months of the year and 18.5 billion euros in the second quarter of 2021.

The situation of French foreign trade has deteriorated considerably in recent months, reaching new abyssal levels.

In May, the trade deficit in goods, established at 13.1 billion euros, had already erased the previous record of April, amounting to 12.4 billion euros.

"

The deterioration of the energy balance is once again the main cause of this situation

", explained the customs, last month.
