The municipalities of Taufkirchen and Ottobrunn have high hopes for the aerospace campus that is to be built in the technology and innovation park.

Now there is momentum from two Bavarian ministries.

Taufkirchen/Ottobrunn – Even if the signatures of those involved are still missing, the declaration of intent for the expansion of the aerospace campus in Taufkirchen and Ottobrunn, which has been available to the municipality of Taufkirchen for a few days, is a strong signal according to Mayor Ullrich Sander (independent).

Because the paper is not just a joint statement by the Technical University of Munich and the two municipalities involved, the district of Munich and the Bavarian Ministry of Science and the Ministry of Construction and Economics have also officially committed to the project.

Declaration of intent for mayor a milestone

I'm glad that we finally have such a statement from the ministries on the table," Sander said in the municipal council.

That gives the project momentum.

The declaration of intent is the basis for "a development that can boost this location enormously."

Sander then presented passages from the declaration of intent to the municipal council members.

The preamble states, among other things, that the Free State of Bavaria, through the construction of the aerospace campus at the Taufkirchen/Ottobrunn site, will "establish a new innovation ecosystem that will cover the entire innovation pipeline from basic and applied research to technology transfer in Map start-ups and industrial companies".

The aerospace campus will thus unite science and business through the faculty and the desired company settlements.

The joint declaration is intended to form the basis for any future urban development contracts that may be concluded.

Free State is also committed to the subway extension

In a further passage, the Free State promises that the municipalities will bear the costs for, among other things, reports and concepts that are related to state building measures.

In addition, it is stated elsewhere that the campus should be planned and built under sustainability aspects.

In the paper, the Free State of the municipality of Ottobrunn also promised to provide them with the best possible support with the planned extension of subway line 5 to the Ludwig-Bölkow-Campus, just like the municipality of Taufkirchen with the “creation of areas for the settlement of, in particular, industrial and start-up companies”.

In the long term, the transport connection should be low-car.

As reported, Bavaria's Prime Minister Markus Söder gave the impetus in his Bavaria One speech in 2018 to expand the technology and innovation park (TIP) with the Ludwig Bölkow campus into an important aerospace location.

In the meantime, the Technical University of Munich has started building its new faculty for aeronautics, space travel and geodesy there.

With 55 chairs, it will be the largest in Europe.

At the same time, start-ups and other companies from the aerospace industry are to be located there.
