The great heat in the first week of August is briefly driven away.

A cold front will arrive in Germany from the northwest on Thursday.

Stuttgart - Temperatures over 30 degrees, blazing sun and muggy air - in Germany you currently feel like you are in an open-air oven.

The extreme heat is accompanied by storms.

In the first week of August, such should move across large parts of Germany.

The trigger is a cold front coming towards us from the northwest.

When these cold air masses meet the currently prevailing Sahara heat, it can really explode.

Hail, heavy rain and thunderstorms are not excluded, as reported

.

"The great heat will soon be driven away again," confirms Anna Gröbel, qualified meteorologist at

wetter.com

.

"On Thursday, a cold front is already knocking on the door in the northwest." During Friday (5 August), the cold air masses will continue to move in a southeasterly direction.

"Then cooler sea air comes to us in Germany - and meets hot desert air."

BW24

has the storm schedule for the weekend.

Cold air meets desert heat - severe storms will hit Germany from Thursday

With such extreme air masses, which will meet from Thursday (August 4th), the resulting storms will also be more extreme than usual. "It will be a really full-blown storm situation," warns Anna Gröbel.

Rotating thunderstorms, so-called super cells, can then form in the weather in Germany.

On Thursday afternoon things are starting to get going in north-west Germany.

However, it only gets violent in the evening hours.

From North Rhine-Westphalia via Lower Saxony up to Schleswig-Holstein there is then an increased risk of severe weather.

"There can really be heavy rain, hail and storms," warns the weather expert.

The supercells already mentioned can also form there, but only locally.

On Friday (August 5th) the storms will shift to the south, as meteorologist Anna Gröbel shows.

Baden-Württemberg and Bavaria are particularly affected.

During the night on Friday there will be showers, rain and thunderstorms in the northwest for a while.

According to Anna Gröbel, the storm zone shifts to the southeast during the day.

"It starts up again, especially in the afternoons," she says.

But there is also an increased risk of severe weather in the entire south-eastern half on Friday.

Baden-Württemberg and Bavaria in particular were severely affected by these storms on Friday.

Heavy rain as well as hail and larger hail and even hurricane gusts are calculated locally for the two federal states.

"Friday will probably be the worse day," is Anna Gröbel's assessment.

Weather in Germany: The situation will relax again at the weekend

Just in time for the weekend, it's time to "take a deep breath" again, says Anna Gröbel.

The storms and thunderstorms then move back into the Alps.

The meteorologist warns that it can continue to rain there for a long time, sometimes with severe weather.

The situation is thus clearly relaxing again.

One advantage of the storm: the cold air is spreading throughout Germany and we are once again dealing with the influence of high pressure.

The temperatures will again reach high values between 22 and 31 degrees, but in contrast to Thursday (August 4th) we will no longer come close to the 40-degree mark.

At least for now.
