Hundreds of migrants rescued in the Mediterranean will disembark in an Italian port, says Doctors Without Borders

By George Engels

Hundreds of migrants who were rescued in the Mediterranean Sea and have been aboard a rescue ship for more than a week will be able to disembark at the Italian port of Taranto, Médecins Sans Frontières/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), which operates the rescue ship.

“The news we have been waiting for has finally arrived.

After almost 9 days at sea, the 659 survivors aboard the #GeoBarents will be able to disembark at the port of #Taranto.

It must no longer happen that vulnerable people are stranded at sea for such a long period,” the Italian branch of the non-governmental humanitarian organization tweeted on Friday.

The Geo Barents rescue ship is currently moored in the port of Taranto, according to ship tracker MarineTraffic.

Earlier this week, CNN reported that MSF and two other humanitarian NGOs accused European countries of not doing enough to prevent migrant deaths at sea in the central Mediterranean and demanded that they step up state search and rescue missions, institute quicker responses to distress calls and quicker disembarkation mechanisms for survivors.

President of the National Assembly of Venezuela asks Colombia to hand over Julio Borges

By CNN Spanish

The president of the National Assembly of Venezuela, Jorge RodrĂguez, demanded this Thursday that Colombia hand over opposition leader Julio Borges.

Rodríguez assured that Borges is the "intellectual author of the frustrated assassination" that occurred four years ago in Venezuela against the questioned president Nicolás Maduro.

CNN has asked Julio Borges's defense for information about his whereabouts, as well as a reaction to this request from the leader of the Venezuelan Legislative Power, but we have not yet received a response.

Former deputy Julio Borges was mentioned in the investigations of the attack on the Venezuelan president, but he was not formally part of the process because he was not living in Venezuela and resided in Colombia.

This petition comes hours after a Venezuelan court sentenced more than 10 people to up to 30 years in prison for charges related to the attempted assassination of Maduro, which occurred on August 4, 2018.

The attack was perpetrated during a military parade on one of the main avenues in Caracas, when two small drones flying over the event exploded.

Maduro was unhurt, although seven National Guardsmen were injured.

Multiple injured, including two police officers, after a vehicle rammed a parade in New Mexico

By Tina Burnside, Amanda Jackson, CNN

Multiple people were injured, including two police officers, when a car rammed into a parade in the city of Gallup, New Mexico, on Thursday night, authorities said.

Multiple people were being treated at the venue, where people were enjoying the Gallup Intertribal Ceremonial Centennial Celebration, the New Mexico State Police said in a Twitter post.

The extent of his injuries is unknown.

The driver and passengers are in custody, authorities said, and state police are investigating the incident.

Thursday night's ceremonial parade was scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. in downtown Gallup, according to the event's website.

The parade was part of a day-long celebration of Native American culture and heritage, according to a news release about the event.

Video taken by witness Sean Justice shows a group of people performing in the street as the crowd erupts in screams, with people jumping and running in the opposite direction of what appears to be a moving car.

Another video captured by witness Keisha Joe shows what appears to be the van she drove into the parade.

In front of the truck, a damaged car is seen on the sidewalk, with its front door damaged.

Navajo Nation Council President Seth Damon released a statement that said, "The Navajo Nation stands firm against any acts of violence and sends prayers of protection to those. This was a traumatic and triggering event for many, especially our young, old and our veterans who acted quickly.

"Keep Gallup in your prayers tonight as we come together in faith and strength for one another. May the Creator and the Saints bless you all tonight as we move forward together," he said.

CNN's Amanda Jackson contributed to this report.
