Phnom Penh-Sana
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stressed that the Iran nuclear deal should be returned to its original form, which was agreed upon in 2015, without exceptions or additions.
Lavrov said at a press conference in the Cambodian capital Phnom Penh today, "Our position is very clear on the agreement, which has never changed, and is based on the need to resume the comprehensive plan of action for the nuclear agreement exclusively in the form approved by the UN Security Council without any additions or exceptions."
According to Lavrov, “The Americans are trying to make the amended plan the subject of a new agreement, while the Iranians insist that everything will be as agreed in 2015. We see that Iran’s position is completely legitimate.. The Americans withdrew from the plan that everyone agreed to, including Americans themselves.
He added, "Since Washington tried to disrupt this plan, it must, of course, simply withdraw its position and return to the original agreements... and herein lies the problem now."
On another subject, Lavrov stressed that the West is trying to use the “Ocos Alliance” to promote NATO’s interests in the Indo-Pacific region, noting that “military sentiments that appear in Japan and that are tickled by the West are actively used to achieve this end.”
"Japan, New Zealand and Australia are attracted to activities that include the expansion of NATO infrastructure in the region where we are present and the formation of logistical chains here to meet the needs of NATO military activities," the Russian official explained.
In mid-September, Australia concluded a defense and security deal with Britain and the United States under the new "Ocos" partnership.
In another context, Lavrov expressed Moscow's readiness to discuss the issue of prisoner exchange with the United States, but through a channel agreed upon between Presidents Vladimir Putin and Joe Biden, pointing out that the Americans cannot afford to work quietly and professionally on many issues.
