It is the biggest sporting event in Munich since the 1972 Summer Olympics: The European Championships will be a mega-event for athletes and fans.
Construction work is already being done in many places in the city.
An overview.
The anticipation is huge: 4700 athletes from 50 nations will compete in beach volleyball, canoe racing, climbing, athletics, cycling, rowing, table tennis, triathlon and gymnastics at the European Championships from August 11th to 21st.
In addition, the free festival "The Roofs" offers a colorful program with music, art and culture.
Sports fever is spreading in the city:
The Odeonsplatz
2,500 spectators can cheer on the athletes on the free grandstands on Ludwigstrasse and Odeonsplatz.
The Odeonsplatz is the start and finish of the marathon route, in which the athletes run through a 10-kilometer loop four times on August 15th.
After the pros, hobby runners can also compete (registration: www.munich2022.com).
"We invite everyone to run a 10-kilometer lap," says Deutschmeyer.
The entry fee is 35 euros, all participants receive a ticket for a competition in the Olympic Stadium.
Walkers (competitions on August 16th and 20th) and road cyclists also pass by there.
