In Franconia, young people were blackmailed by strangers with a nasty scam via Instagram.

The police explain the procedure and warn.

Dinkelsbühl – The Dinkelsbühl police warn of a nasty scam: Criminals use social media to contact mostly young people, gain their trust and then try to blackmail them.

Two such cases have been reported in the past few days, according to the officials from Middle Franconia in a press release on Thursday, August 4th.

Nasty Instagram scam: young people in Middle Franconia blackmailed

The procedure was as follows: “Both times, strangers had contacted young people via the social media service Instagram and, in the course of the communication, had persuaded them to send photos of themselves in bathing suits.

The photos were then edited so that the young people appeared to be naked.”

The perpetrators then demanded several thousand euros from the young people and threatened to publish the photos on various Internet platforms if they did not pay.

But no payments were made.
